BIOGRAPHY

Rose Gray is a California-based artist specializing in restaurant and food photography. Her unique approach stems from a combined passion not just for photography but for the food itself; from the farms on which it's grown, to the methods by which it's prepared, to the final presentation of each dish, she chronicles every step in the journey of taste.

She began her career with Gruber Photographers in New York, whose radical approach to wedding photography began to inform her own creativity. Through running the Gruber production studio and assisting on such high profile weddings as Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones', she learned not only how to take a photograph but why.

Knowing now what to do behind the camera, she wanted to learn more about what she hoped to put in front of it. This prompted a move to San Francisco, a city with a rich culinary history where she could better learn the intricacies and intimacies of her desired subject matter. She quickly found a perfect match in Delfina, where she was given an intensive education in the food and wines of the Bay Area and beyond. The next step was the natural marriage of her passions, becoming the in-house photographer for Delfina, Range and Sociale. This in turn led to her shooting the cover photograph and main story for San Francisco magazine's Cocktail Heaven issue.

Rose's approach to food photography shows in the photographs she takes - she sees ingredients as the farmer sees them, as the chef sees them, as the diner sees them. For Rose, the food and images each nourish the senses and delight the soul.
